Lisbon doesn’t do generic. Neither does its newest hotel arrival. Andaz Lisbon opened its doors this past March. It already landed on two of The Points Guy’s most exciting 2026 hotel lists.
This is Andaz’s debut in Portugal. They chose the Baixa district. Busy. Historic. Central. The promise was good views, local connections, and no cookie-cutter vibe. They delivered. The design is gorgeous. The service is sharp. The menus feature actual Portuguese food, not tourist bait. It feels curated, not copied.
This points hotel feels anything but cookie-cut
First impressions
Step inside a former bank.
It houses the hotel now. The architecture outside matches the elegant 18th-century style of Baixa perfectly. Inside? History stares back. They found a 1767 tile panel of Our Lady of Mercy during renovations. It hangs in the foyer. There’s even a desk from the old bank, now displaying art books.
Corridors buzz with color. Art everywhere. Every piece on the walls ties back to Portugal in some way. Other decorations travel further afield. African textiles. German Bauhaus sculptures.
Does it make sense? Yes. Lisbon is diverse. It’s a place where haute couture shops sit next to shoe stores that haven’t changed their signage in a century. Tuk-tuks rattle past castles. E-scooters zip by cathedrals. The hotel captures that chaotic elegance. It doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The rooms
Compact facade. Huge variety inside. 170 rooms span six floors. You can book a basic one-king or splurge on a 1,065 sq ft presidential suite.
I took the Deluxe One-King. Extra space in the sitting area. Double windows looking out onto Rua do Comercio. The colors pop. Textures mix. It matches the hotel’s art-first design philosophy.
The snack station? Well-stocked. Coffee maker, tea kettle, minibar. Complimentary food and drinks last one night. Only. Then it costs extra. They give you two stainless steel water bottles as a souvenir. Fill them up at the lobby water station.
The bathroom features bold red tiles. Small footprint. But it fits a roomy shower, a separate toilet stall, and a vanity. Plush robes and slippers were waiting for me. A nice touch.
Heads up about the smell. The whole property uses a signature fragrance. If you get migraines from scented candles or lotions, proceed with caution. It didn’t bother me since the room and dining areas were mostly scent-free, but highly sensitive noses might suffer.
Dining
Here is the big news on breakfast.
You pay 29 euros (about $33) extra per person per day. You get an extensive buffet. Cold cuts. Hot items. Plus a menu for cooked-to-order dishes that doesn’t charge more.
Is it worth it? I skipped lunch most days. I was full. It is a proper European start to the day.
Luzzi Restaurant sits on the rooftop. Z Terrace is right next to it. During breakfast hours, Luzzi serves everyone. After that, it serves modern Portuguese food. The light comes through windows overlooking the city. It’s bright. Cozy. Energetic yet relaxed.
Locals go there. I saw dressed-up Lisbonians on a random Wednesday night. That’s a good sign.
Food highlights? The feijoada Lusitana (20 euros/$23), a rich bean stew. Tofu dumplings (10 euros/$11). Sweet potato fries (8 euros/$9). All superb. The vegan quindim dessert? 10 euros for passion fruit heaven.
Z Terrace offers the same food and drink menu. Just… outside. Views of Rua Augusta Arch. Live music Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Downstairs sits the Andaz Lounge. Inspired by Portuguese qui osques (street kiosks). Refined drinks. Elevated street food. I tried to sample some local wine. Not a huge wine snob, but I had to. Every bottle on the glass menu came from a female producer in the area. The bartender helped me pick a vegan-friendly meal too. The Caesar salad (12 euros/$14) had a mushroom dressing and tofu.
Let’s be clear. I’ve had many salads in my life. That one ranks in my top five.
Service here is warm. Polished, but not stiff. You feel like a VIP without worrying about dress codes.
Amenities and Experiences
Standard stuff first.
– 24/7 fitness center.
– A spa opening later this year. Right now, they do in-room treatments. Or send you to partner spas nearby via the concierge.
– Pet friendly for dogs under 66 lbs.
Then there are the Signature Experiences.
The hotel teams up with locals for tours. Half-day. Full-day. You can do street art with an artist. Ride a horse along the coast. Catch your own seafood and cook it on a boat with a fisherman.
I did a shortened “Gems in the Making” tour. The full version costs 900 euros (about $1,028). I took a condensed trip through the oldest artisanal shops. Foot tour. Tuktuk optional.
My guide took me to the world’s oldest operating bookstore. A hat maker in his fifth generation. A coffee shop where Fernando Pessoa once sipped his morning cup. We finished with a filigree jewelry workshop at a shop running since 1924.
It was different. Not the postcard version of Lisbon. It was the version locals live in. I never would have found those spots alone.
Location and Logistics
Andaz Lisbon sits in Baixa. Downtown. Half a block from Rua Augusta, the main drag. Steps to the Tagus River.
Walking distance covers Alfama. It covers Pink Street for nightlife. It’s about 20 minutes from Lisbon Airport (LIS) by car. Rideshare costs 10 to 20 ($12 to 24) euros. Public transport is cheap. Roughly 2 euros. Takes twice as long.
Nearest bus and metro stops (Praca do Comercio and Terreiro Paco) are just a couple of minutes on foot.
Accessibility Check: It’s not perfect. Most common areas have elevators. One specially adapted room exists. It has wider doors and a roll-in shower for wheelchair users. Only one of these rooms exists. Call ahead. Confirm your dates. I didn’t see Braille signage. No advertised visual doorbells. But call the hotel. Ask about your specific needs. Don’t assume no means no.
Booking Strategy
Standard rooms start at 266 ($303). My Deluxe King started at 304 ($346). Neither price includes breakfast.
It’s a Category 6 property for World of Hyatt. Award charts updated recently. You’re looking at 20,00 to 40 0 points per night.
Chase Ultimate Rewards users pay attention. Andaz Lisbon is on Chase Travel’s “The Edit”. You get elite-like perks. You earn Hyatt points and Chase points on the stay. It’s also a “Points Boost” property. Redem through Chase can give solid value. But compare. Check Hyatt’s site. Compare the rates.
Direct bookings? Use the right credit card. Ideally one that grants World of Hyatt elite status.
- World of Hyatt Credit card : 4x points at Hyatt. Automatic Discoverist status. 5 elite night credits yearly.
- World of Hyatt Business card : 4x points. Auto Discoverist status. 5 tier credits for every 10K spend.
Final thought
Central location. Good service. Lots of style.
But the hotel itself isn’t just the highlight. The food. The cultural experiences. Those stayed with me longer than the beds or the tiles. It’s a jewel of a property, sure. But it’s the experiences that stick.
