Capital One is adding a new lounge to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), the issuer announced Thursday. This will be the largest Capital One Lounge to date, spanning 14,000 square feet. The expansion reflects a broader trend: major airlines and financial institutions are competing to offer premium airport experiences, particularly in major hubs like Charlotte.
New Lounge Details
The CLT lounge will be located on the mezzanine level of Concourse A. Capital One emphasizes that the space will feature locally inspired menus, a full-service coffee bar, expansive tarmac views, and dedicated workspaces. No firm opening date has been provided, but the announcement coincides with Capital One’s growing presence in Charlotte, where it is expanding its offices.
Currently, Capital One operates lounges in New York (JFK), Las Vegas (LAS), Washington D.C. (DCA & IAD), Denver (DEN), and Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). Another lounge is planned for LaGuardia (LGA). The Charlotte location would become the eighth in the company’s network.
Competition at CLT
Capital One is not alone in investing in premium airport amenities. Delta Air Lines opened a Sky Club lounge at CLT in December 2024, and American Airlines has announced plans for its first Flagship Lounge and expanded Admirals Club facilities, set to open in August 2025. This competition indicates rising demand from frequent travelers for comfortable, high-end airport spaces.
Accessing Capital One Lounges
The primary way to access Capital One Lounges is through the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Venture X Business card, both of which carry a $395 annual fee. These cards provide complimentary lounge access to Capital One Lounges, Capital One Landings, and Priority Pass lounges.
Access rules are changing February 1st : Venture X cardholders will soon have to pay an annual fee of $125 for authorized users to retain lounge access. Guests will also incur a fee: $45 per visit for adults, $25 for children under 17, and children under 2 remain free. Spending $75,000 annually on the card allows two guest visits at no extra cost.
The expansion of Capital One’s lounge network to Charlotte is a natural move given the company’s broader investment in the city and the airport’s role as a major travel hub. As airlines and financial firms compete for premium customer loyalty, travelers will likely see more high-end airport amenities in the years ahead.
