Welcome offers are the engine.
Not the points themselves, not the lounge access, not the free bags.
The initial burst of miles is what pays for the trip.
You fly Delta enough to notice the difference? Then you are thinking about one of their cobranded American Express cards.
Big catch though: Amex gives you exactly one lifetime welcome bonus per card family.
Miss the mark, and you burn your shot.

We track these fluctuations so you do not have to guess.
Offers shift.
They vanish.
They return with less fuel in the tank.
Keep in mind, what works for me might not be your target, and these public offers change on a whim.

Note: This is strictly public offer history.
Targeted, personalized offers sometimes beat the curve.

The Blue Entry

Delta SkyMiles Blue American Express.
No annual fee.
Simple.
It lacks the bells and whistles of the premium tiers, but it is fine if you fly occasionally and refuse to pay for a card you rarely use.

  • Current : 10,00 bonus miles on $1,00 spent in six months.
  • Peak : We saw 15,00 bonus miles for that same $1,00 spend three months back. (Gone.)

The Play :
Apply now? Yes, if 10k sounds acceptable.
Waiting?
Unlikely to help you much.
We have not seen limited-time spikes on the Blue in years.
Chasing a phantom 15k is a losing battle.

The Gold Standard (Consumer)

Delta SkyMiles Gold.
$150 yearly fee, waived the first year.
Priority boarding.
Two free checked bags worldwide on Delta flights.
For many, this is the sweet spot between free and expensive.

  • Current : Up to 90,0 bonus miles.
    • Spend $3k in six months: get 70k.
    • Spend another $2k (total $5k) in six months: get 20k.
  • Peak : This is the peak. 90k total is the best we have seen.

The Play :
Apply.
70k miles is the floor.
This is above it.
Don’t sit on this.

The Platinum Tier (Consumer)

Delta SkyMiles Platinum.
$350 a year.
For those who find the Reserve too steep but want better than the Gold.

  • Current : Up to 100k bonus miles.
    • Spend $4k in six months: 80k.
    • Spend another $2k in six months: 20k.
  • Peak : Same as current. 100k is the high water mark.

The Play :
Apply if the offer hits 80k.
Right now it does.
Timing is good.

The Reserve Flagship

Delta SkyMiles Reserve.
$650 annually.
The big guns.
Sky Club access.
Annual Companion Certificate.
Expensive, yes, but the math works for die-hard frequent flyers.

  • Current : Up to 125k bonus miles.
    • Spend $6k in six months: 100k.
    • Spend another $3k (total $9k) in six months: 25k.
  • Peak : Previously 125k flat for $6k spend. No longer available.
  • Wait, really? 125k current vs 125k historical?
Yes. But the historical one was a lower spend requirement ($6k total vs $9k total).

The Play :
The current offer is robust. Over 90k.
If you have the $6k to drop easily, jump.

The Gold Business

Delta SkyMiles Gold Business.
Same perks as consumer Gold, different fee structure.
$0 intro, then $150/year.

  • Current : 90,0 bonus Miles. Spend $6,0 in six months.
  • Peak : Same. 90k is top dog here.

The Play :
It beats the 70k threshold we usually advise.
Go for it.

The Platinum Business

Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business.
$350 year.
Choose this over consumer Platinum if the business expense reporting suits you.

  • Current : 100k miles. Spend $8k in six months.
  • Peak : 100k for just $4k spend in three months. (Old news.)

The Play :
100k is 100k, regardless of spend.
Apply now.

The Reserve Business

Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business.
$650 year.
For the business traveler who owns the airport terminal.

  • Current : 125k miles. Spend $15k in six months.
  • Peak : Current. 125k is the highest.

The Play :
Wait for 100k+.
We are at 125k.
Do it.

There is no silver bullet.
Offers breathe in and out.
The window closes without a sound.

Keep an eye on these thresholds:
* Blue : Any.
* Gold : 70k+.
* Platinum : 80k+.
* Reserve : 90k+.

Once you pick, you are locked in.
Forever.
Make sure the number feels right before you sign.

We also track these swings for Capital One, Chase, and Citi if your loyalty lies elsewhere.
Or just Amex, if the points game is the only game that matters to you.

When is the last time you checked?
