World of Hyatt just teamed up with Aeroplan. And before you click away—yes, there’s value here if you travel often.

It’s a standard loyalty handshake, but the specifics matter. Link your accounts, and points flow between them. Earn. Redeem. Transfer. Simple. But the real hook? Elite status fast-tracks. Specifically for Aeroplan’s high-tier members. And cardholders with Canadian-issued premium cards.

“Hyatt is one of the most admired hospitality brands,” said Scott O’Leary from Air Canada. “We’re creating value across the travel journey.”

Cute. Let’s look at the math instead.

What Aeroplan Members Get

Aeroplan points can now buy Hyatt free nights. That’s huge. The redemption starts at 25,00 Aeroplan points for Category 1–4 or Category 1–7 nights. No blackout dates, mostly. Eligible hotels, of course.

World of Hyatt members aren’t left out completely. You can swap your hotel points for a flight reward certificate worth 30,000 points on Air Canada flights.

The elite benefits skew heavily toward Canadians, though.

If you hold Aeroplan Elite Status or a premium Aeroplan card issued in Canada, you get a shortcut to Hyatt’s hierarchy. A 90-day status challenge lets you jump ahead:

  • Four nights stay = Discoverist status
  • Ten nights = Explorist status
  • Twenty nights = Globalist status

Canadian cardholders also get free Discoverist status every year. Plus five night credits toward the tier. And two chances to hit that status challenge. It’s generous. If you live there.

TJ Abrams at Hyatt called it “connecting the flight and the stay.” Maybe. But the numbers speak louder.

What Hyatt Members Get

You might feel a little short-changed right now. The initial perks for World of Hyatt members are thin.

Link your account and you get a CA$20 credit on Air Canada flights. That’s it for now. Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist all get the same twenty bucks. It’s a snack, not a meal.

Later in 2026—yes, 2026—the other shoe drops. Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members can fast-track Aeroplan elite status. Details TBD.

Is a twenty-dollar credit enough to link your account? Maybe. It won’t change your travel plans.

The Bottom Line

The partnership leans hard on Aeroplan’s infrastructure. Why? Because Aeroplan has the heavy lifters—the elite status holders, the card users, the points hoarders. Hyatt wants access to them.

For non-Canadians with premium Aeroplan cards, this is a wash. You don’t qualify for the status hack.

For Canadians, it’s a gift. Free elite status, effectively, if you fly enough or carry the right card.

We’ll wait for 2026. See what Hyatt throws back at Air Canada loyalists. Until then, if you’re flying Air Canada routes, the Hyatt free nights are cheap. And sometimes cheap is the best kind of premium.

“It should be noted” — wait, I won’t use that. But yes. Terms apply. Check them.
