It’s the third birthday. Of Citi Travel. And they are giving away cash.
Well, discounts. Close enough. From May 27 until midnight EDT on May 29, eligible cardmembers can knock $50 off hotel bookings that hit at least $300. Terms apply, of course. Because nothing is ever free.
Is $50 life-changing? No. But if you were going to book a summer stay anyway? It helps. Especially for people who already hoard ThankYou Rewards points and intend to spend them.
How to grab the discount
You need to be eligible. You need to log in. You need to book through Citi Travel directly. Not the hotel site. Not Expedia. Citi Travel.
The stay must be prepaid. The cost must be $300 or higher. The window is exactly three days. Miss it? Bad luck.
Depending on which Citi card you carry, you might layer this discount with other benefits. Points redemption? Bonus earnings? Check your card terms. Sometimes things stack. Sometimes they don’t.
“Travel continues to play an increasing role in our ecosystem.” — Chris Besendorfer, head ThankYou Rewards. He says we use points for more than just dream vacations now. For everyday travel too.
Think twice before clicking buy
Here is the thing about travel portals. Prices can be better. Sometimes they are not.
Always compare. Look at the hotel’s own website. See what happens when you book direct. You might miss out on elite status points. Or better cancellation windows. Flexibility has a cost, and third-party bookings often eat that flexibility alive.
But here, the math is simple. Save $50 now? Or hope for 1,000 loyalty points later that might not get you a room anyway?
If you plan to use your points anyway, the portal is fine. If you were going through Citi Travel regardless, this just sweetens the deal. It does not create value from thin air, it just subtracts $50 from your credit card charge.
The end
So, mark the calendar. May 27 to 29. Book prepaid hotels over $300. Get the cut.
Don’t sleep on it if you are going. Sleep in a cheaper room instead? That seems logical.
Will it make your summer vacation perfect? Probably not. But $50 buys dinner. Or two. And that is worth something, isn’t it?
